The Rangeley Region has been an alpine skiing and riding destination for decades. The industry began to take root in the 1950s and by 1960, Saddleback Mountain opened to the public. Sitting at 4,120’ tall, with a 2,000’ vertical drop, Saddleback is Maine’s third-largest ski area. Saddleback is about a 15-minute drive from the village of Rangeley. With the highest base lodge elevation of any ski area in the Northeast (2,460’ to be exact), Saddleback gets some of the most snow in New England. Whether you’re a seasoned shredder or new to the slopes, Saddleback has something for everyone. The ski area is home to 68 trails and 600+ acres of terrain for every level, including 40 acres of gentle beginner terrain and the iconic Casablanca Glades. There are four quad chairlifts, a T-bar, and a moving carpet in the beginner area. Kick back and relax and enjoy the après ski scene at the mountain. The Pub at Saddleback is the main restaurant in the base area. It overlooks the mountains and is filled with generations of Saddleback memorabilia. There is also a brand-new mid-mountain restaurant located at 3,160’ just off Hudson Highway.
